【Veterinarian's Daily Struggle 5: Bring it on, doctor, let's dive right in!】

我I consider myself a fortunate veterinarian with nearly a decade of clinical practice. Most of the owners I've encountered have been considerate, aware that their companion animals may get anxious during visits and come prepared with muzzles, Elizabethan collars, or even specially designed laundry bags for feisty cats. They often provide thorough advance warnings and are enthusiastic about assisting, sometimes even embracing their own animals (not me, please don't get it wrong!), prying open their animal's mouths, urging me to proceed directly.

Although the pet owner's restraint position typically lacks much protective effect, the we appreciate the heartfelt effort and sentiment invested by the owner.

The standard restraint position may seem rough to many owners, but it effectively safeguards the visiting animals, the attending veterinarian, and the assistant staff. I have experienced some rather unpleasant incidents during my career, and perhaps the most severe injury occurred when a panicked stray cat, reminiscent of the "Facehugger" from the movie "Alien", bit my face, requiring five stitches in the emergency room.

I've witnessed a dentist having his finger broken due to a forceful bite by a four-year-old boy. The incident occurred because, encouraged by the parents' subtle hints, the little boy found it amusing to bite the dentist. As a result, the dentist couldn't practice for a month, missing scheduled appointments and surgeries.

Please appreciate the medical professionals in Taiwan who are still dedicated to their clinical roles.
