Rabbit Teeth Grinding with Dental Drill - Case Sharing (Taipei)

A 3-year-old Rex rabbit, experienced persistent suppuration and a noticeable loss of appetite after the extraction of misaligned teeth. Concerned, the owner traveled from Taipei to seek dental treatment from Dr. Chung-Wei Chen.

Upon examination using dental X-rays and intraoral camera, our hospital diagnosed the rabbit with malocclusion, affecting the maxillary and mandibular incisors as well as molars on both sides. Specifically, the misalignment involved the maxillary and mandibular anterior incisors (106, 107, 108, 206, 207, 208, 307, 308, 407, 408) and the maxillary and mandibular molars on both sides (109, 110, 111, 209, 210, 211, 309, 310, 311, 409, 410, 411).

The overgrowth of teeth in the rabbit led to abscesses and ulcers. Following dental grinding and wound cleaning in our clinic, the rabbit's appetite gradually returned. However, the owner should remain vigilant regarding the rabbit's selective eating behavior, particularly its reluctance to consume hay.

It's essential to note that a rabbit's primary diet should consist of a substantial amount of hay rather than carrots. Owners should avoid allowing rabbits to develop a selective eating habit.
