[Scaling and Root Planing]: Using an ultrasonic scaler tips and curette, thoroughly clean all calculus and plaque, including tooth surfaces, periodontal pockets, and root surfaces. It's crucial to remove them completely, especially making the roots smooth to prevent the accumulation of new calculus and plaque. This is also the treatment option recommended by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) for periodontal disease patients.
※ Good cleaning is the foundation of all periodontal treatments. As long as you can maintain cleanliness, there is a chance of regeneration for both gingiva and alveolar bone, even without periodontal surgery. On the other hand, if you do not thoroughly clean the periodontal tissue, no matter what kind of periodontal surgery you perform, the effect will be greatly reduced, and the tissue may not regenerate.
[Periodontal Surgery]: When the treatment results of scaling and root planing are not satisfactory or if you want a better periodontal regeneration effect, surgical methods can be used to fill the lost periodontal tissue. This includes procedures such as periodontal flap surgery, free gingival graft (FGG), connective tissue graft (CTG), guided tissue regeneration (GTR), guided bone regeneration (GBR), etc., to restore the original height of the gingiva or alveolar bone, and increase root coverage.
